For how long will Nigerians living with disabilities wait to live a normal life like everyone else around them? Have full education opportunities, have fun, fall in love and marry without being castigated and rejected, have a career, have a family and go through all the daily experiences of living without being discriminated against.Imagine someone living with disability celebrating a birthday and his friends decided to take him out for a dinner to the best restaurant in town which he haven’t been to in his entire life and it is going to be a beautiful experience and for this reason, it is meant to be a birthday present from his dear friends that loves him so dearly and they are aware that taking him to such a place will be memorable in his years of celebrating birthday. Unfortunately, on getting there, he was unable to wheel inside the restaurant due to the inaccessibility of the entrance refused to be carried up the restaurant because of his ego he always want |

to do things himself not wanting to be pitied by anybody or draw attention to be pitied in public places. For this reason, he got so angry on a day that he supposed to be happy and he put all the blame on his friends who mean no harm but he made a well constructed reason that they are aware that the entrance is unfriendly to him and brought him there. He made a claim that it is a calculated effort to ruin his birthday celebration. He retired by instructed them to take him home where he locked up himself and slept a very sad man on his birthday. Tell me if you are the man on the wheelchair, how will you feel? Or if you are the friend, how will you feel? Or if you are the restaurant owner on witnessing this incident, what will be your take? Think about this and send in your comments at:info@qualitativemagazine.com. Also make suggestions on how to stop this scenario. |
